Rules:
The decision of the Section Secretary is final.
Trophies remain the property of Honley Show Society. They must be returned on, or before, the day of the Show. Please return in a good, clean condition.
Riding hats to the current safety standards must be worn when mounted anywhere on the Showground.
NOTE: ALL EXHIBITORS IN HORSE CLASSES MUST HAVE PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE.

The South West Yorkshire Shire and Hiring Society Foal 5 Star Accumulator.
Open to Pure Bred Shire Horse Foals born in 2025

Participating shows: Honley, Harthill, Emley, Arthington and Penistone
Points will be awarded according to the placings of the foal in the Foal Class (classes may be split into filly & colt at each show’s discretion)
Points awarded as follows: 1st 5 points, 2nd 4 points, 3rd 3 points, 4th 2 points, 5th 1 point
This accumulator is open to everyone. Membership of any show societies is not required.
CHAMPION FOAL (the foal with the most points) from the accumulator will receive £100 kindly donated by the SWYSHHS.
RESERVE FOAL from the accumulator will receive any £50 kindly donated by R & R BEDFORD, HARTCLIFFE SHIRES

TO RECEIVE ANY AWARD FOR THE FOAL ACCUMULATOR, COMPETITORS MUST ATTEND THE PENISTONE SHOW

Important information re. EQUINE INFLUENZA
Horses must have been vaccinated to comply with the requirements of the primary course (1st vaccination & then 2nd vaccination between 21 – 92 days later) followed by the first booster (150 -215days) and then all subsequent boosters. Horses may compete having received the primary course and prior to the first booster but not within 7 days of receiving a vaccine dose.

Horses must have been vaccinated within 6 months before the Show but not less than 7 days of arriving at the Show.
Foals
In-foal mares that have already had vaccinations of primary course Equine Influenza should be vaccinated 4-6 weeks before the foal is due to be born.
Foals should be vaccinated for Equine influenza at 6 months to commence their primary course.
All owners are urged to adhere to strict biosecurity protocols at all times.
Vaccinations are subject to local risk assessments by the attending veterinarians.

Monitoring of Compliance
PLEASE NOTE THAT NEITHER VACCINATION CERTIFICATES NOR PASSPORTS SHOULD BE SENT TO THE SHOW PRIOR TO THE EVENT. HOWEVER RANDOM CHECKS WILL BE CARRIED OUT ON THE SHOWGROUND DURING THE SHOW.

Entry Fee: £10.00 all classes. On the Day Entries £12. £2 First aid donation optional
Postal Entries Close: 21th June 2025 to allow for the entries to be received by the Heavy Horse Secretary.
(Late entries taken on Day of Show at the Horse Secretary’s Tent up to 12.00 am)
A vehicle pass will be required to access the main Showfield via Gate 2. Access available until 11am.
Appearance Fee per Exhibitor of £25 IF ATTENDANCE CONFIRMED BY 21st June

Prize Money: (Classes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8) 1st – £50, 2nd – £40, 3rd – £30, 4th – £20
Class 6: 1st – £40, 2nd – £30, 3rd – £20, 4th – £10
Champion Shire in Show – £200. Reserve Champion – £100

The G Gladwin Silver Cup for the best Female Home-Bred Shire
The Dudley Parker Silver Challenge Trophy for the Best brood Mare in Show
The Anson Franklin Memorial Trophy for the Best Young Handler
The Tom Lodge Memorial Cup for the Best Foal in Show. Kindly donated by the Lodge Family
The Tom Moorhouse & Son Trophy for the Best Ridden Shire
The above trophies to be competed for annually and held for one year by the winner.

Shire Horse Classes

Judge: Mr Nigel Blakey, Billinghay, Lincs
Judging: To commence at approx 1.pm. in the Shire Ring on the main Showfield.

Class 1 – Barren Mare or Gelding – 3 years old and over
Class 2 – Colt, Gelding or Filly born 2024 (Yearling)
Class 3 – Gelding or Filly born 2023 (2 years old)
Class 4 – Brood Mare with Foal at foot
Class 5 – Foal Born 2025
Class 6 – Young Handlers: Age 12-18 years. Winner qualifies for Young Handler of the Year 2025 at the Midland Shire Foal Show.
Class 7 – Ridden Heavy Horse: Pure bred or Cross(Shire or Clydesdale). Shire and Shire cross to be judged in line with SHS Criteria.
Class 8 – Any other recognized heavy horse breed (in-hand)

Championship
1st and 2nd from Classes 1-5
Judging to take place in the Main Ring at 3pm
